Its hard to believe that over 8.1 billion lbs of medical product is thrown out each year—most of which still usable. These life saving devices if redirected from the waste stream and properly redistributed could be in the hands of health professionals providing health care in the developing world. Imagine a child that can’t have her broken leg realigned because the physician treating her does not have cast supplies, or a boy that has an open wound that can’t be stitched because the doctor treating him lacks sutures. These situations, which are endemic to the developing world, are correctable—in fact they can be avoided entirely! What health care providers’ need in the developing world is a means to receive donated medical equipment and supplies.

At Advocates for World Health, we redistribute donated medical equipment and supplies to organizations that are helping improve the infrastructure and delivery of health care.
